At Pine Street School we believe that engaged, hands-on experiences are the most effective encouragement students can be given to get the maximum value out of learning.

New York City is one of the most dynamic and resource-rich settings in the world for education. To that end we ensure that all of our of our students, from Kindergarten on, make weekly field trips to places of historic and academic value that add context and content to their units of study while bringing theory to life. Local experts in fields from arts to engineering make classroom visits and host students in their workplaces to run skills workshops and help advance student-led projects. Individual passions are seeded and developed for each child as they come to understand how to navigate their city and primary research sources, in order to get the very best out of their surroundings.

Liberty Science Center

The Anatomical Mirror – providing accurate and realistic three-dimensional views of the human body and its systems – complemented students inquiry into basic body organ systems and human science.

Backstage on Broadway

Students were given a behind-the-scenes look at a Broadway production, complete with lighting and sound demonstrations and the opportunity to learn about careers in theater as part of their storytelling inquiry.

Poets House

Students visited the national library and literary center where each found something in the wide and varied tradition of poetry that spoke directly to them, inviting them to step into the living tradition of poetry.

Tenement Museum

During an inquiry into immigration, students learned about the experiences of generations of newcomers who settled in the Lower East Side, learning the role immigrants played in shaping national identity.

The United Nations

Students toured this international organization founded in 1945 and currently made up of 193 Member States. They learned about its mission, purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.

One of our student’s favorite guest experts:

Victoria Sanchez-Lincoln, Fashion Director, Real Simple

Students studying what people do for work and how systems function within a workplace, had the opportunity to visit Time, Inc. Pine Street School parent Victoria Sanchez-Lincoln, Fashion Director at Real Simple gave the students a tour, they learned how the departments work independently and together, and she helped them create their own unique magazine covers.
