Montessori and International Baccalaureate are naturals together at Pine Street School. The basic elements of both programs complement each other seamlessly. Where the Montessori method engages a child’s genuine enthusiasm for learning, IB PYP takes that mindset and gives it wings – taking it out onto the global landscape.

The Montessori method is a child-centered education approach with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures worldwide. This approach values each individual child physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. Pine Street School's Preschool areas are set up with materials for Mathematics, Language, Sensorial, and Practical Life learning. As students progress through Preschool and into Kindergarten our program shifts focus to the IB PYP's depth and academic rigor.

The goals of a Montessori education are to:

    • Foster competent, responsible, adaptive citizens who are lifelong learners and problem solvers
    • Promote learning in an inquiring, cooperative, nurturing atmosphere through self- and teacher-initiated experiences
    • Support learning through the senses, by manipulating materials and interacting with others, leading to the abstract understanding of ideas
