Pine Street School proudly offers a compelling multi-lingual educational continuum of excellence beginning with the Primary Years Program (PYP) in early childhood and elementary, and continuing with the Middle Years Program (MYP) in middle school. Through personalized learning, inquiry-based exploration, and a deep focus on intercultural understanding, our students are prepared to lead and thrive in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to exploration of our city, we foster a truly internationally-minded Middle School experience, where students will be able to participate in international travel experiences that allow them to engage with the world in authentic ways.

Each year of Middle School, students will travel to a unique destination. Prior to the trip, students will engage in research and action-oriented projects that connect with the location they are visiting.

During 6th and 7th grades, students will visit Costa Rica and/or Iceland, alternating each year. In 8th Grade, as a capstone to their Middle School experience, students will embark on a trip with Mandarin language connections.

At Pine Street School, students embark on an integrated, immersive language journey from nursery through 8th grade—an experience that lays the foundation for conversational fluency, cultural competence, and leadership.

In our Ones and Twos classrooms, students experience Trilingual Immersion with three rotating native-speaking teachers—one each for Spanish, Mandarin, and English. By Preschool 3s and JK, they transition into Dual Language Immersion, guided by two dedicated teachers in either Spanish/English or Mandarin/English.

From Kindergarten onward, students engage in a Partial Immersion Program, spending about one-third of each day learning in their target language. This model is not just about learning the language—it’s about living the language. Teachers are not only native speakers; they are native to the cultures they represent, infusing lessons with authentic traditions, stories, music, and customs.

In Middle School, German is added for advanced language learners, expanding opportunities for multilingual proficiency.

Language learning is enriched through cultural field trips, global studies, and international travel, preparing students for advanced placement in high school—and equipping them with the confidence, empathy, and intercultural understanding needed to thrive in a complex and connected world.
