The German-American School Manhattan (GSM) and Pine Street Middle School announced today a new collaboration that benefits students and families who are interested in inquiry-based learning and language immersion programs. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, GSM graduates will be offered a seamless transition to Pine Street Middle School and the opportunity to continue their high-quality German language instruction. .
Pine Street Middle School, an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, will launch a dedicated German language track designed to align with GSM’s language immersion goals. GSM, currently an IB Candidate School, is set to achieve full IB authorization by Spring 2025, ensuring a smooth alignment between the two institutions.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to multilingualism, global citizenship, and academic excellence,” said Julia Stratmann, Director of GSM. “We’re thrilled to provide our students with a continuity of language and philosophy as they transition into a warm and welcoming middle school community that will feel familiar but give them the opportunity to explore new cultures, languages, and perspectives.
Anna Rita Pergolizzi-Wentworth, Head of School at Pine Street Middle School, added, “Our partnership with GSM brings meaningful opportunities for Pine Street students to develop cross-cultural understanding and language skills in a new German language track. This addition is more than just language learning—it’s a chance for our students to become global citizens and cultivate a rich appreciation for diverse cultures.”
Immediate Benefits for Families Include:
Continuity in Learning: GSM students enjoy a smooth continuation of their German language immersion, while any new student at Pine Street Middle School has the opportunity to join a dynamic German language track.
Shared Educational Vision: The alignment of both schools under the IB framework reinforces a strong, consistent academic foundation.
Convenient Location: Both campuses are located in Downtown Manhattan, just a 15-minute walk apart, making transitions and combined events convenient for families who are looking for an innovative, engaging, multilingual, and multicultural education.
Cross-Cultural Diversity: This partnership aligns the diverse backgrounds of GSM families with Pine Street’s commitment to inclusivity and a global perspective.
